ALBERTA INTERCOLLEGIATE WOMENS FASTBALL ASSOCIATION
ACADEMIC / ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION
AIWFA SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
2009
All student athletes on Alberta teams in the AIWFA are invited to apply for scholarships valued at $750. Applications may be mailed to Kathy Worthington, (AIWFA Secretary) at 67 Deermount Way SE, Calgary and postal code T2J-5P4. Scholarship Committee Chair, Suzanne Downey will then direct a review of applications to determine acceptance. Your application may be e-mailed to kworthington@shaw.ca prior to February 1, 2010. |
CRITERIA
- ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT -- Priority is given to applicants with a Grade Point Average of 3.0 or higher (equivalency of various institutions’ GPA standards will be considered), based on an official transcript for the 2009 fall term, as submitted by the student before February 1, 2010.
- FULL-TIME STUDENT STATUS -- The applicant must have completed at least 60% of a program's full-time course load throughout the 2009 fall term.
- TEAM MEMBERSHIP -- The applicant must have been a member-in-good-standing with an AIWFA team during the 2009 season and must have participated in 80% of the team's games and practices--to be confirmed by the team's head coach.
- GOOD CITIZENSHIP -- The applicant must have continually demonstrated the ideals of good citizenship on campus, on the playing field, and in the greater community -- as confirmed by the team's head coach.
- AMBASSADORSHIP -- The applicant must submit a 300-400 word, typed essay presenting a personal perspective on her and the team’s contribution to benefit the softball community. You might describe practises engaged in that benefited (or could benefit) the community; how they have (or could have) reaped some return for your team, AIWFA and fastball across Alberta and Canada.
AIWFA SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION
PREAMBLE
The Alberta Intercollegiate Womens Fastball Association (AIWFA) is a registered non-profit organization dedicated to establishing women's fastball as a sanctioned Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) sport. To this end, AIWFA has established a post-secondary women's fastball league at the sport club level--a league open to all colleges and universities in Alberta. In addition, AIWFA has established an academic / athletic scholarship program to encourage women to continue playing softball at the post-secondary level. The scholarships are in recognition of the academic and athletic commitment required from student athletes as well as the potential loss of income for students when they participate in intercollegiate athletics.
